Total Gym FIT is rated 4.6223 out of 5 by 278.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from As advertised For years, I hesitated to buy one of these total gyms because I thought it was for sissies. Having lifted weights for improving my looks and health for 20 years, recently I started having back pain that would not quit; so, after the new "fit" came out, I bit. I have used this machine about 3 weeks now. I made an agreement with myself not to do a "knee jerk" review. Having run it through the motions several times, here is my review: I have to give it 5 stars because it does what it claims it will do. It is fully assembled when it arrives as promised. I choose to leave mine up all the time as it is in my basement gym. It came with several CD's explaining the machines and demonstrating exercise. It even has trainers on the CD's for various kinds of exercise programs. There are exercise cards and a poster showing exercises. It is a solid machine as promised. It has a steel frame and everything fits together smoothly. I bought the extra attachments, everything except the aerobics bar. I like the fact that the assess. attachments change out fairly fast so the workout can keep going. If you want to do aerobics exercises, this machine can make you sweat and breath hard. As they say, the lower heights are easier to use and the cable action is smooth and steady. It does make exercise interesting. If you are into muscle building, raise the height levels. You might get a surprise as I did as to how difficult it can be! At 225 lbs. I provide a good resistance for most exercises. I have the weight bar too, and it is nice to be able to add weight to the machine. You can go up to a total of 400lbs. Unless you are a heavyweight weight lifter, you should have plenty of resistance to exercise forever! My favorite exercise is the shoulder press lying upside down on the machine pressing up on the bars on the bottom. I also like the pullups and arms. You might want to use a squat rack if you want to lift heavy for legs. I am surprised at the burn I feel and the pump I get using this machine. When using this machine for body building, just observe the same basic rules of body building: Two or three sets per exercise, two or three exercises per body part, 8-12 reps, two to three times a week on alternate days. I work upper body one day and lower the next. Also, keep a training long and don't rest too long between sets. I'm regaining some muscle I have lost already and I notice how quickly I am getting stronger from workout to workout. Do not expect to use the total gym for one rep max lifts; it is not designed for this. You can build your body on the total gym, but as with weights, practice focusing on the resistance and the contraction of the exercise movement. The last rep should be nearly impossible to complete. Once 12 reps are achieved on an exercise for every set, increase resistance so you can't do 12 repetitions and start building up to that number again. Progression with consistency builds muscles. Just a few facts and suggestions for the new owner of the total gym. First, I found out that there is not twice as much resistance on the "fit" model. It has the same resistance as XLS but in twice as many increments. Both provide a total of about 60% of your body weight in resistance at the top level. I believe you'd be just as happy and save money with the XLS model. For those of you who turn your nose up at the 60%, it's a lot harder than it appears. When you do a lot of exercises, you have a cumulative affect that makes the lifts harder. Also, remember, you can add weights to the weight bar if needed. Take your time getting to know the exercises and the safety practices on the total gym. There are many exercises and you should find a lot of favorites and enough to mix it up now and then to keep it interesting. Watch the videos. The videos are very informative. It will take a time or two to get used to the feel of the pullys and feeling your body going back and forth on the sliding board. Concerning the sliding board, take you time and get on and off using great care. Hang on to the handles and mount and unmounts like they tell you to do. Don't expect to pull it out of the box and hope and start exercising without learning something about the machine. Give it a chance to prove what it can do for you. I held off giving a review so I could give it a fair shake. I like mine. If I had it to do again, I'd probably buy the XLS model, which is roughly half the price of the fit. Total gym can work for you if you consistently use it and focus on your exercises and not waste time. There is no machine that will make you lose weight or gain muscle just by owning it; you must put in the work and eat a sensible diet. I hope my comments have been helpful. God bless.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pro's and Con's I have used my gym for a week. It does come fully assembled as described, and I was able to remove the carton and unfold it myself. I am a 50 year old woman who works out consistently. I used the professional version of the total gym at my gym before I decided to purchase the home version. Pros - TONS of exercises... Easy to transition from one to another. Great range of motion. Kind of fun. I love the cards that come with the machine. The machine can be used for light cardio. My heart rate got up to 18 beats per ten seconds. Cons - 1 - The foot attachment that comes with the machine is ridiculously small. RIDICULOUSLY. I am 5' 5" tall. THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN DO A PROPER SQUAT... FEET TOGETHER, AND ESPECIALLY NOT FEET WIDE. Even if you put your heels on the very edge, if you go down into a 90 degree squat your knees will go over your toes. This is NOT proper form, and the makers of this gym should know that. My knees started to hurt right away. The professional version of the gym has a much bigger foot platform. This aspect of the Total Gym is extremely disappointing, as I mostly purchased it for leg workouts. You WILL have to purchase the pilates toe bar in order to do a proper 90 degree angle squat. 2 - Even at a resistance level of 12, the total gym DOES NOT have enough resistance to allow you to do strength training on your arms, and especially not on your legs. YOU WILL have to purchase the weight bar.. and weights.... if you want to limit your reps to 15 or less to failure...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Getting In To Better Shape Love my new Total Gym Fit. I do wish I had watched the unpacking video first. Hey, I'm a guy and we don't read instructions! Once set up the beginner video was great and I look forward to advancing as I use it daily as part of my workout routine. I'm only on day two but I feel it and it feels good! I suspect I'll look like Chuck Norris by year's end. But don't tell him or he'll come over and kick my butt. Oh! I do expect my wife to look like Christie Brinkley by then too but don't tell her I said that!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Total Gym = no knee pain. I bought my Total Gym Fit about 2 months ago. I am happy with the results I am getting . I have not lost much in weight just yet but so far I have lost 2 inches off my waist and 1/2 inch off upper arms and hips. I am getting stronger and more muscle. Progress seems slow but it is happening. Total Gym has helped tremendously with the arthritis pain in my knees. I was having pain every day. Now they don't hurt at all. You can do so much with this1 piece of equipment. But if you are thinking about making a total gym purchase PLEASE give it TIME to work. Results aren't overnight. I was impatient and wanted to see results right away. You will FEEL the results before you will see them. Don't quit . It will happen in time. before you will see them. Don't quit. It will happen in time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Total Gym I've owned yet! I already had an XLS...which I love & have used for several years. I decided to upgrade & gift my XLS to my parents. I was so impressed by the FIT! I knew I would love it because of my experience with the XLS. But the FIT way surpassed my expectations. The glide system is so smooth and the additional levels are very helpful. I have to be careful with joint shock because of my back. The glide board is so smooth...there was virtually no joint stress whatsoever. I am so glad I decided to upgrade. Total Gym always puts out a great product in my opinion. But they out did themselves with the FIT. I love the wider range if motion as well...it is very effective & comfortable to use. Just as a side note for some reason on this survey when it asks about cons...once I scrolled through the options to look at them. It made me choose one. There are no cons for me. So please disregard that section of my review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy for Everyone - Great way to get Fit! Me and my sons started using FIT about 9 months ago. It was hit or miss at first, then in August, I started to get serious. Since then I've lost 20lbs. Of course, it is not exercise alone, good eating habits are also important. My boys are starting to get into a routine too, at least 3x a week. They will be going to High School next year, so looking good is important to them (them being healthy is important to me). Set up could not be any simpler. Storage is easy (although it does have some weight to it, so individuals who don't lift heavy objects may want to consider putting this in a place where it does not have to move). Overall - we are very pleased. It has turned us from a family that talks about getting healthy into a family that IS getting healthy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally fell in love with my Total Gym Fit If I were gung-ho about working out I wouldn't be fat, so ordering something that I could use in my home didn't guarantee that I WOULD use it and this was no exception. It took a couple of weeks for me to warm up to my Fit (I had SO much trouble unfolding/folding that it turned me away initially). I finally found my flow and that part is a breeze now (thankfully) even if I don't look pretty doing it. As for the exercises, some of the workouts are so short that I'll sometimes do 2 or even 3 on the same day. The Ab Crunch series is BRUTAL, however, and I love it for maybe every third day as a stand-alone. Another one that left me sore was the 6 to 8 Minute Workout, but I'd done two that day so maybe that's why? Plus have I mentioned how VERY out of shape I am? I work long days sitting a desk and then I watch TV...until now. In a few weeks of trying various disks, I have YET to have one say, "Okay, you'll need to attach your leg pulley" so if that's an add-on, you can maybe skip it. I consider this to be a sound investment. At 5'6" and 160lbs I have a ways to go before I'm bikini-ready, but this will get me there and then some. I've yet to find a routine that I'm doing regularly but every day I'm doing something and that's more than what I was doing before. There's this really cool move where you sit at the top of the board with your feet on the pulley cord (some sort of leg abductor?).... I want to find THAT disk.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I purchased the total gym fit 3 weeks ago. I could see and feel a difference within a couple of days. I had been going to the gym and getting frustrated with my slow progress. With the total gym I am free to work out whenever I want and do not have to go out in the weather or have to wait for a machine. I have to modify my upper body workout due to five shoulder surgeries but can see a huge difference in them on just 3 weeks. I have dropped several inches and can feel a difference in all areas especially my core and abs. I would recommend it to anyone.
